In the last while I have become increasingly aware of the power of simple yet effective tools and techniques that can greatly assist a person in maintaining an equanimous and harmonious state of being that I felt compelled to share them with anyone who may benefit. I believe that all of us are able to feel an energetic impact from the people, places and objects around us to varying degrees, according to our level of sensitivity. Since becoming more skilful and disciplined using these tools, I have felt increasingly empowered, free, capable and supported by life, and feel inspired to keep learning and making use of available resources that can provide energy protection that nurtures resilience and inner peace.
The extent to which a person is sensitive to energy, may determine what type of tools and techniques would be most useful and appropriate for them. A person who is very energy aware is often referred to as an empath - this is a person who has a supernatural ability to sense and tune into the mental or emotional state of other people (or objects and places), as opposed to a person who is simply empathic - someone who has the ability to relate to and identify with the feelings of another person.
I personally experience myself to be fairly empathic as well as being an empath, to the extent where it is essential for me to have knowledge and tools that can assist me to protect my energy field from the outside world.
The times when I really experience myself as an empath are at places like markets and festivals, and spaces where people are generally packed together tightly and moving about. Over the years I have had to accept that I can only be in crowded spaces for a very short amount of time (if at all) until I start to feel the energetic impact.
In the last while have had to learn various techniques to keep my own energy safe and contained so that I am not affected by the environment I find myself in and the energies of the people around me.
There are so many ways in which a person can protect their own energy field and I believe it is up to each individual to find those tools which are most suited to their personal energetic make-up. I share here a few of the tools and techniques that I love the most -
The first being, protective jewellery. In the past I used to wear jewellery purely for decorative purposes. However in more recent times I became increasingly aware of the power of jewellery made from stones or crystals created with an intention to provide a supportive attribute, such as good luck, prosperity, self care, protection etc. for the wearer. Stones and crystals have been used and worn for their supportive energies for thousands of years. There are many crystals that are known specifically to provide protection and repel negative energies, usually they are among the darker coloured ones, such as tiger's eyes, black onyx, obsidian, black tourmaline, labradorite, smoky quartz, amethyst and fluorite. Stones found on the beach or in a river can also hold incredible protective energies and can be identified by holding them in hand and feeling into their inherent vibrational quality. They can then either be placed in a sacred space, carried in a handbag or used as a charm on a necklace.
Another favourite of mine is meditative visualisation. There are two types that I love in which protective light can be harnessed and used as a shield to protect the aura from harmful energies. The first one is to connect visually and sensorially with a point of light inside oneself. The point of light can be considered to be a divine aspect of oneself that is eternal and infinite, and for myself I find it located inside my heart. Once connected to this point, the light can be expanded in the imagination until it fills and surrounds the entire physical body like a protective shield, trusting that it will provide protection and comfort throughout the day and night. The light can be any colour that resonates most with the individual.
The second technique involves locating a place of light somewhere above our earthly plane and dropping a connecting chord down from above all the way through the seven chakras as well as around the entire physical body until is firmly anchored in place, trusting that it will provide protection and comfort throughout the day and night. This light can also be any colour that resonates with the individual. Both of these meditative visualizations can be performed first thing each morning or anytime when required.
Mantras, prayers and affirmations are also powerful and are essential tools in maintaining feelings of safety and well being. Sounds have a powerful ability to shift our state of being according to their meaning and vibrational qualities. Mantras and affirmations can be expressed in the form of songs and chants, and when repeated over and over again, can have a magnificent effect on tapping into and awakening valuable inner qualities such as feelings of safety, protection and wellbeing. They can either be personally authored or can be chosen according to their personal significance and resonance.
A few of my favourites simple yet powerful affirmations -
"I am safe. I am divinely protected at all times, and in all ways. No harm can come to me. I am safe and grounded to mother earth. I am surrounded by the light of peace. I am a bearer of light. I am always guided, guarded and protected. I am calm, centred and peaceful. I am fully supported by the universe. Divine protection brings me prosperity and happiness."
And lastly, but possibly most importantly, is to invoke the support and protection of trusted allies, such as angels, spirit guides, spirit helpers, power animals, mentors etc. If you are unsure who they are, a simple prayer asking that they reveal themselves to you in either a dream, a vision, a feeling or a sound should suffice to bring them forth. Once they become familiar they can then be communed with in moments where their assistance is required.
May all beings feel safe, protected and supported today and always and may they feel free and empowered to call upon divine assistance to carry them through the tough times.
